Beginner's Photography Course in Oxford

I have lived in Oxfordshire for the whole of my life, meaning I know Oxford like the back of my hand. Oxford is a beautiful city with the architecture of its 38  University colleges in the city’s medieval center leading the poet Matthew Arnold to nickname it the 'City of Dreaming Spires'.

I thought it was the perfect place for me to do my beginner's photography course. None of my photography workshops involve any PowerPoint presentations or extensive note-taking. We start the course over tea and coffee going over the controls and buttons of your camera. My mission is to move you away from the automatic setting and give you the confidence to use your camera.

Throughout the day I give fun 'mini missions' to put your new knowledge to the test. This course is only for six people meaning that I can spend time with each student individually throughout the day helping them to improve. At the end of the day, we go to a cafe in Oxford and we go through some of your favourite shots from the day and focus on some basic editing skills using Lightroom.

Testimonials

"I received a really lovely camera from parents last year for my birthday but I didn't know how to use it. Going to John's photography course in Oxford workshop was really helpful, he went through the basics of the buttons and controls really slowly and was more than happy to go back over things throughout the day. I now use my camera all the time, I take it to friend's birthday parties and family gatherings, meaning I have captured so many memories which I otherwise wouldn't have. I cannot wait to go another one of his courses" - Hope
